The core component of automotive window systems is the window regulator (window lift mechanism). Each window has a small DC micro motor on the side, controlled by switches on the door panel or central console to start and stop the motor. Each motor shaft connects to a reduction worm gear, and through gear-worm meshing, achieves angle conversion and forward/reverse motion at constant speed.

The gear connects to the glass linkage to achieve up/down glass movement, or alternatively connects via steel cables for reciprocating motion.
